It all has to start somewhere. Some will say that ground zero might be the Nike and Adidas flagships.
Corporate and coveted. But who makes these decisions? Perhaps it is the customer and the unique niche stores that they flock to that start the conversation. The new Kith store opened last month. want the coolest and best of the best? This is one of the places to start. Ever seen a sneaker sculpture before? Or an art gallery in a kicks emporium? They're all here.
Around the corner, you can find a quirky "mall" with a machine that dispenses the chance to get sneakers.
Designers and the super-Brands have realized that there is a new world out there. Sneakers have been spun to within an inch of their life. Nike and Adidas might spend oodles of money on scientific R&D, so you can run faster and perhaps jump higher, designers have worked hard to make sure that all eyes are on your feet.
What follows is only a very small sampling of the what a lot of money can buy today.
Do you want the unique and limited edition? Try the Valentino Rock Stud in their Soho pop-up, or the flowered special for Bergdorf's. If you don't like that, how about the Vuitton Kabuki? Put a face on it.
Maybe some Chanels ( high or low top) in a signature Chanel fabric.
Or if you want bling....try Giuseppe Zanotti. Very creative bling at that. Trendy? You bet.
Even the bros are not left out....Louboutin, Zanotti and Dolce Gabbana have your back.
But take heart....Margiela and Simone Rocha rock a more delicate vibe.
If you really want Adidas, but you want something totally different....try these. The art of the sneaker.
